Cathedral Youth Club
was established in 1972 by Dean George Good and the late David Warke. Owing to the Troubles at that particular time there was an identified need for a centre to divert young people from anti social behaviour.
The Cathedral School in London Street provided suitable accommodation for the youth club to open the doors on a Friday night 7.00pm -10.00pm to provide indoor games and of course listen to records from an old gramophone which was hi-jacked from the Warkes family home. Many good evenings were held in this old school building, as in order to raise funds to purchase equipment and take the young people away on occasional trips a lot of hard work went into organizing Jumble Auctions, Jumble Sales, Concerts, Sponsored Walks etc.
However in 1980 the youth club moved to Kennedy Place the old UnionistBuilding. A lot of hard work went into making the building suitable for the young people and to complete the refurbishment the Western Board supported the project. 10 happy years were spent in the Unionist building but unfortunately owing to more extensive repairs needed once again we found ourselves on the move.
