(article from Colin Neighbourhood website)     The Colin Youth Strategy Group held an awards ceremony for 250 young people and their families in the Balmoral Hotel on Thursday 18th June 2009 to celebrate the achievements of local youth.   Sean Devine, Chairperson of the Colin Youth Strategy Group explained   “It was excellent to see the amount of young people, parents, siblings and grandparents who attended the event to show their support to all of the nominees and winners of the awards.  There is a wealth of talent, skill and commitment in the Colin area which our young people can use to bring this community forward in a positive manner.

We are very proud of everyone who was nominated.  It wasn’t an easy task to narrow down all of the fantastic nominees but the judging panel was privileged to have the opportunity to learn about all of the amazing work they are participating in.”   Gemma Burns, Youth and Education Community Development Officer from Colin Neighbourhood Partnership thanked all those who made the event a success,   “The event was a major success and it would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Young Strategy Group.  I would also like to give special thanks to SEELB who supported the event and Debonair who donated tuxedos for the presenters to wear.    The young people were awarded in eight categories including Music, Arts, Outstanding Achievement, Volunteering, Sport, Education, Pupil of the Year and Group Achievement.  We are so proud of not only the winners but all those nominated as they all deserve our recognition and praise.”      For more information on the Youth Achievement Awards contact Gemma on 90 623813
