The Bloomfield Community Association has been in existence since the year 2000.  Mayor Roberta Dunlop officially opened the Community Base on 20th August 2005.

The estate will be undergoing redevelopment work over the next few years with the bungalows and flats being redeveloped.  At the moment, lack of  funding from the Stormont Executive is holding up the progress of this work.  We have done a questionnaire with the residents in the bungalows.  The information gathered has been passed onto Robert Mahaffy (NIHE) and Councillor Alex Easton MLA.  Councillor Easton has already raised the issue in Stormont and, we, as a Committee, will continue to lobby on this contentious issue.

The Bloomfield Community Association Committee has regular meetings with the Housing sub group where issues can be discussed with NIHE.  We also have regular "walk-a-bouts" with representatives from the Housing Executive, Department of Regional Development and Council staff.  This is when we can identify who is responsible for various jobs that need done in our area.

We are currently in the process of developing plans for a new play area within the estate and hope to have this in place by 2010.

There are 2 peices of land in the estate we hope to develop.  One is the pond area, or the "Swamp" as locals refer to it.  The Ulster Wildlife Trust are advising us on this project.

The other area is a piece of land which, for some considerable time now, has been in dispute as to who owns it.  The land is at the back of the 3M factory and we hope to develop this into gardening plots for any residents who have greeen fingers and knowledge on growing fruit and vegetables, or who just want to learn while out in the fresh air!

The Balloo Wetands and Woodlands has been another area which we have been involved with.  It is now in the final stages of development and the offcial launch to be held in May 2009.

The Community Association is going from strength to strength.  The base has seen a 100% increase in the use of the Community Base and residents are calling in for assistance on various issues.
